Long shot made the trip to Annapolis for the j24 East Coast Championship regatta last weekend. In addition to the j24 regatta, the Melges 24 worlds was concluding and several big boat fleets were racing. All of the activity created quite a buzz which made for a great fall weekend in Annapolis.

The j24 fleet had 3 days of good racing which ranged from light (1-2 persons hiking) to solid breeze (top end genoa). The sailing conditions were always tough with strong current, big shifts and a very competitive fleet. Our team’s ability to keep the boat in phase and solid boat speed helped us overcome some really bad starts and rough boat handling. We were happy to finish 10th making it two years running a fleet 86 boat has finished in the top 10 (Rental had an outstanding “top amateur” finish last year).
The East Coast Championship regatta is always a favorite and definitely worth the trip. We’ve gotten pretty good at simplifying the logistics and minimizing expenses, we’re glad to share our secrets and would love to see another local boat make the trip next year.
